I woke up very early today, had my coffee and started reading the book of John with no particular purpose or agenda in mind. John, is probably my favourite New Testament book. I think many new believers are drawn to it initially because it is one of the most "spiritually minded" texts.

As I was reading this morning, I became more acutely aware than usual of how the Spirit will place thoughts, images, or visions into our mind that "speak" to specific issues, concerns, or problems we are currently working through. These thoughts and images are not loud or intrusive. Some describe it as a "still small voice" or a "gentle whisper" (1 Kings 19:12). Paul, in the book of Romans, describes it as the Holy Spirit "bearing witness" with our human spirit. As I was considering Jesus' own words, I couldn't think of a more apt description than His use of the wind (John 3:8) or a breath (John 20:22) to describe the Spirit's nature.
