My wife and I grew up and spent most of our adult lives in cessationist church cultures. And it's the church culture that we exposed our own children too.

That is sad I know...

We've been trying to fix that, but it takes time to unlearn that whole perspective. Here's a good article from Dr. Michael Brown on being cautiously charismatic.

Theologically there has been some "flaky" stuff out there, but the doctrine of cessationism does not have a solid footing.

And afterward, I will pour out My Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams,
your young men will see visions.
Even on My menservants and maidservants,
I will pour out My Spirit in those days.
I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth,
blood and fire and columns of smoke.
The sun will be turned to darkness
     and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and awesome Day of the LORD.
