I think for many, it's become a matter of self defence - to shield one's mind from what looks like a steady barrage of negative news. You do what you have to do to stay sane.

I also think that for many, there is a growing awareness that in "these days", something is off.

Many have been "churched" into the belief that peace will spread slowly, gradually until it fills the earth. Given the days we live in, this has led to a loss of confidence in "that" gospel. Though that is not the message of the prophets, of Jesus, the apostles, or the early church.

The path described in Scripture is consistent. It's one that leads to upheaval in the form of increasing intensity in both man-made and natural disasters described as birth pangs - "and then the end will come". Though the end described, is not the end of all things, but the beginning of His kingdom.

"and I saw One like the Son of Man
coming with the clouds of heaven.
He approached the Ancient of Days
and was led into His presence.
And He was given dominion,
     glory, and kingship,
that the people of every nation and language
     should serve Him.
His dominion is an everlasting dominion
     that will not pass away,
and His kingdom is one
     that will never be destroyed."

- Daniel 7:13-14

"Your kingdom come..."
