Make a veil of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and finely spun linen, with cherubim skillfully worked into it. Hang it with gold hooks on four posts of acacia wood, overlaid with gold and standing on four silver bases. And hang the veil from the clasps and place the ark of the Testimony behind the veil. So the veil will separate the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place.

Put the mercy seat on the ark of the Testimony in the Most Holy Place.

Exodus 26:31-34

What did Jesus just do?

When Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, He yielded up His spirit. At that moment the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth quaked and the rocks were split. The tombs broke open, and the bodies of many saints who had fallen asleep were raised. After Jesus’ resurrection, when they had come out of the tombs, they entered the holy city and appeared to many people.

Matthew 27:50-53

All four gospel accounts record the events surrounding Jesus' death and resurrection differently. Three of the four (Matt, Mark, Luke) record the tearing of the veil from top to bottom. It's John's recording of Jesus' last words to His disciples (John 14 - 17) that describes the significance of removing that veil that separates us from the "Most Holy Place".

And of all four gospel accounts, Matthew records "the tombs broke open, and the bodies of many saints who had fallen asleep were raised... they entered the holy city and appeared to many people."

This was a glimpse into the future. It's the message of the gospel of His kingdom. And it's coming...

And many who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake, some to everlasting life, but others to shame and everlasting contempt. Then the wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever and ever.

Daniel 12:2-3

"Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection! The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and will reign with Him for a thousand years."

Revelation 20:6
