I haven't attached a name to the recent quote above because I think it's become an all too familiar path for some leaders / personalities and their followers in faith based communities.
Personalities and ministries can fall victim to their own popularity. It can be their own pride that gets in the way. Sometimes it's the cheer-leading squad in the background that raises people onto pedestals. People become so hyped and sure of their position because of the echo-chambers they've helped to create that any dissention is treated with derision.
It's how toxic cultures are born.
