Drafting 10 - Course Outline


Aim

To provide students with opportunities to acquire knowledge and develop skills in drafting.

Goals

  • Students will obtain a working knowledge in the fundamental principles of CAD.
  • Students will be able to perform specific tasks of CAD.
  • Students will be able to make informed career decisions based on their experiences.
  • Students will learn independent work habits.
  • Students will learn to communicate effectively in a non traditional classroom environment.

Foundational Objectives

  • To understand the use of the different tools used in drafting.
  • To be able to use and understand the terminology related to drafting.
  • To understand the representation of three-dimensional objects presented on a two dimensional plane using orthographic projection.
  • To be able to describe size as well as shape on a multi-view drawing.
  • To be able to produce simple working drawings for both architectural and mechanical projects.

Program Considerations

This new drafting curriculum is developed specifically for students and schools that have access to computer-assisted drafting. It should be stated here that manual drafting is rarely a skill employers are looking for in today's job market. While manual drafting techniques are discussed within this course, the intent of this program is to focus on computer aided drafting techniques. It is assumed that students enrolling in this course have no previous drafting experience.
