Astute readers of the Bible will recognize that the record of the prophets and statements by Jesus consistently testify that God is not finished with Israel. And that Israel will be at the center of a coming storm.

In combination with that, there is also the general recognition that the geopolitical center of the earth must shift back towards the middle-east.

Historically, the U.S. and western democracies have enjoyed unparalleled prosperity and influence in world affairs. But that has begun to change.

Other rival geopolitical formations like an expanded BRICS, and SCO are challenging western influence.

And today, U.S. influence appears to have suffered another major loss. Intending to broker a peace agreement between Saudi Arabia and Israel (under the umbrella of the Abraham Accords), Saudi Arabia has informed the U.S. Administration that:

  • Saudi Arabia is backing away from U.S. brokered normalization talks with Israel.
  • Instead, Saudi Arabia, along with its Arab League partners, will be moving ahead with their own terms.
  • Talks begin tomorrow on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly this week.

At some point, there will be the infamous future agreement.

"And he will confirm a covenant with many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put an end to sacrifice and offering."

Dan 9:27

I believe that the covenant described by Daniel will be an agreement between Israel and many (not just one) of its stakeholder neighbors. It's interesting that Saudi Arabia is drawing the EU and the entire Arab League into the discussion. I suspect that the matter of a Palestinian state will form part of that future agreement. It's been the central issue for many of the Arab League partners - Arab Peace Initiative (2002). I also believe Jordan (Edom - Mount Seir) will play an important role.

It's an agreement that starts out with a promise of peace but inevitably leads to a time of trouble. I'm not sure where the peace efforts described above are heading, but it does bear watching.
